Group Scout Leader - Saviour Borg

Saviour Borg, the Group Scout Leader joined the movement in 1957.  He joined Cospicua Scout Group at the age of 7 and after 3 years in the movement, joined the Troop and stayed with the Troop as a Troop Leader.  In 1970 he was entrusted to form the first Venture unit. 

Saviour, was invited to open a Scoutís group at Xgħajra by the Local Council.  In 1996, he was appointed as a GSL in Xgħajra Scout group. In 2001, he graduated in Adult Education, and participated in Youth Studies.   He forms part of several voluntary organizations and was co-opted in the Local Council as a youth co-coordinator.

In 2012, he experienced 5 weeks in Kenya as a volunteer.

 

Assistant Group Scout Leader - Phyllis Borg

Phyllis Borg joined the Scout Movement in 1996, one of the first leaders in the Group.  She began her leadership as a Cub Leader and helping in the Troop Section.  She is a Wood Badge holder and in late of 2000 beginning of 2001 formed the Venture Unit.  Now, she holds an AGSL appointment and still helps through the sections especially in the Beavers and Cubs Sections. 

In May 2008, Phyllis was awarded 'Gieh ix- Xghajra' by the Mayor of Xgħajra Local Council for her work in the locality.

In 2012, she experienced 5 weeks in Kenya as a volunteer.

 

Scout Leader - Marcel Borg

Marcel joined Xgħajra Group as a Troop in 1996 at the age of 10.  Throughout his period in the Troop Section he was appointed as an Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and as a Senior Patrol Leader.  During his time in the Troop Section, he achieved all the Awards and was linked in the Unit in 2001.  In the Venture Unit, Marcel served also as a secretary, cashier and later he was elected as a chairperson.  

In December 2000 he was awarded the Royal Life Saving Society Medals and Crosses and served for a several time at St. John Ambulance Brigade and Rescue Unit.

In March 2004 was pointed as an Acting Leader and served in all Sections.  During his period in the Venture Unit, he achieved the Venture Award and in February 2006 was presented the Dolphin Award by the Chief Commissioner.  In July 2006 he was awarded the President Gold Award by the Honourable President Dr. E Fenech Adami himself. 

He travelled in the UK at Great Tower Campsite at the Lake District Windermere and together with other scouts, accomplished his Dolphin Award.  In April 2007, Marcel attended the Queens Scout Parade & Service in Windsor Castle representing the Top Award Holders from Malta, were there he had the opportunity to meet Her Majesty the Queen.  Late October beginning of November 2010, Marcel was in charge of seven Maltese Venture Scouts contingent which led them to the top of the North East Etna's Crater with the help of an Italian Guide.  In June 2011, another honourable award, 'Gieħ ix-Xgħajra', was awarded by the Xgħajra major his contribution to the work done at the locality. 

 
Beaver Leader - Gemma Refalo

Gemma joined the Scout Movement in 1995 and joined Xgħajra Group in 2001 as a troop and later she was linked into the Venture Unit.  She served as a secretary and an assistant chairperson in the Venture Unit Executive Committee.  During her period in the Group she achieved the Venture Award and in June 2006 she was awarded the President Bronze Award by Local Major. 

Nowadays, Gemma is serving as an Beaver Leader.  She also travelled with the contingent to Sicily to participate in the Etna Expedition Alpine Style from the North.
